Mykola Tomenko: The President, the Government and the Parliament shall exert Efforts to develop a Common Action Plan before 2012, as it is a Year of Sports and Healthy Lifestyle
Today, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine took part in the round table discussion "Legal and Organisational-Financial Preparation for 2012 as a Year of Sports and Healthy Lifestyle in Ukraine" which was initiated by the inter-parliamentary union "Healthy and Sportive Ukraine."
Opening the meeting, Mykola Tomenko reminded that next year Ukraine together with Poland shall hold the European Football Championship and it is the year of the Summer Olympic Games. Moreover, the next year was proclaimed a year of sports and healthy lifestyle in Ukraine under the Order of the President of Ukraine.
The Deputy Chairman of the Parliament admitted that despite common efforts that resulted in several legislative acts on sports and physical culture, "implementation of positive legislative initiatives is obstructed by the mechanisms and instruments of their implementation, first of all funding."
"When we discuss 2012 and a five-year program, we shall discuss a peculiar system that would be effective. This system shall attract investments", stressed Deputy Chairman, emphasising that local authorities should have spent funds on small local projects to support and protect children, arranging an appropriate recreation and health improvement network, sports and physical culture facilities, rather than investing in another mega project.
Summarizing, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that the President, the Government and the Parliament shall exert efforts to develop a common action plan before 2012, since it is a year of sports and healthy lifestyle.
